THE EMPLOYER:

Our client is of one of the world's largest energy companies.It has operated in China for more than three decades.It was one of the earliest and largest foreign invested enterprises in China.The company has over 30 JVs and wholly owned companies in China and more than 3,000 staff.

The company has an in-house legal team of 7 legal advisors and is seeking two In-house Counsels to join the team, based in Shanghai. The successful candidates will report to the Managing Attorney for the China and regional operations of the company.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Master a brief and immediately identify the legal issues related to a case
• Identify all potential legal implications in cases and propose legally sound solutions
• Handle specific well defined cases independently with minimum review by senior colleagues at key decision points
• Identify the potential impact on the company of general legal developments
• Partner with line management colleagues to identify options for achieving the company’s objectives within legal constraints
• Prepare for negotiations as a member of a team
• Ensure line management colleagues give due consideration to key legal issues in decision making
• Draft complex legal documents accuratel

REQUIREMENTS:

• Law degree from a reputable China law school and/or from an overseas law school
• 7+ years experience in a leading MNC, international law firm or top-tier local firm
• PRC bar admission — preferred but not essential
• Good drafting and negotiation skills
• Excellent command of English
