THE EMPLOYER:

Our client is one of the largest suppliers of industrial gases globally.The company established its first joint venture in Beijing in 1992.With over 1000 employees in China, the company is the leading supplier of industrial gases.

Headquartered in Shanghai, the company operates 12 wholly-owned companies and 11 joint ventures, several strategic alliances, and a technology center. Its joint venture partners represent China's premier steel, chemical and electronics companies.

Our client is seeking Legal Counsel with at least 5 years of experience to join its legal department in Shanghai.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

The successful candidate will pro-actively assist the China General Counsel in the management, and development of the company’s China legal department.Main duties and responsibilities are:

• Provide general legal advice and services, particularly contract negotiations and review
• Pro-actively support the effort to optimize the company’s legal structure, conditions, and ways of working to enable the maximum realization of business objectives
• Advise on legal strategies and tactics, as well as interpretation of PRC laws and regulations
• Pro-actively support the effort to identify, prevent/minimize, and respond to legal risks
• Pro-actively support the effort to educate company China’s employees about legal risks and issues
• Support education, implementation, and enforcement of local and global compliance policies
• Coordinate with external lawyers regarding dispute settlement matters

REQUIREMENTS:

• Law degree from reputable Chinese university; overseas educational and/or professional experience — preferred
• At least 5 years legal experience with MNC and/or reputable law firm
• PRC bar qualification
• Strong communication skills in (oral and written) Chinese and English
• Strong business sense and global perspective
• Leadership experience, skills, or potential – preferred
• Ability to manage conflicting priorities under pressure so as to provide a timely and effective value-added legal service
• Willingness to take initiative
• Team spirit
