THE EMPLOYER:
Our client is an international technology corporation that serves customers in the pulp and paper industry, rock and minerals processing, and power generation.
The company started its own operations in China through a joint venture in the 1980s.Today, it operates in 15+ localities in China, with about 1,800 technologists.
The company is currently seeking IP Counsel, to be based in Beijing.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
The successful candidate will be responsible for handling IP matters in China. He/she will report to Senior Legal Counsel in China and closely work with the company’s IP network worldwide. Main duties and responsibilities are:
- Develop IP strategy in China to efficiently operate the company’s IP assets (patents, trademarks and know-how/trade secrets)
- Assist in filing patent applications in China
- Assist in registering and prosecuting trademarks in China
- Monitor Chinese IP activity in all areas of interest to the company
- Evaluate, advice on and direct IP infringement and invalidation actions (patents, trademarks)
- Draft licensing agreements, technology transfer agreements etc.
- Instruct, coordinate and supervise patent/trademark attorneys in China
- Provide training on IP matters
REQUIREMENTS:
- University degree in mechanics, mechanical Engineering and / or automation
- University degree in Law - not required but a significant plus
- Experience from Paper technology is preferred, and positively interested in learning Paper technology related both to chemistry or mechanical issues
- PRC bar and patent bar qualifications - preferred, not obligatory
- 5 - 7 years relevant experience as of IP related work
- Strong team spirit and self-motivated
- Good command of English in oral and written
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Good understanding of Chinese and western cultures
