THE EMPLOYER:

Our client is a top three Australian law firm with the largest presence in China. It is ranked as a leading firm in Hong Kong in patent and trade marks by Asia Pacific Legal 500 2006-07. In January 2008, it will increase our presence in Asia by opening a new trademark agency in Beijing.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

The successful candidate will report to and be supervised by the lawyer who is head of IP in Asia and work closely with a Senior Associate based in its Hong Kong office. S/he will be exposed to the full scope of commercial China trademark work including licensing & franchising, as well as contentious proceedings at the China Trademark Office (oppositions, cancellations, review applications, and the like) and in the Chinese Courts (appeals from China Trademark Office decisions, infringement proceedings, etc.) as well as China Customs enforcement, SAIC enforcement and domain name disputes.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor degree (or/and above) from reputable PRCUniversity, law degree — desired but not required
• Qualified to practice as a Trademark Agent in China
• 3 – 4 years PQE with a reputable law firm or patent & trademarks agency in China
• Knowledge of practice and procedure in the Chinese Courts
• Familiarity with the procedures of the China Trademark Office
• Excellent spoken and written communication skills in Mandarin and English
